Don't Get Scammed!
Are you A First Time Engine Buyer?
Buying an engine for your car or truck is not as easy as going to your local department store and picking one off the shelf. There are many ways to make mistakes that can cost you a lot of money.
First understand that engines are sold as long block assemblies. A long block assembly is the block and head(s) only. That is all that is covered by warranty. All other parts will need to be moved from your existing engine to the replacement assembly.
Next you must decide whether you want to buy a used or remanufactured engine. (This is to be filled in with a general outline of "Why Buy a Remanufactured Engine")
If you decide to go with a used engine, there are a host of issues that can trip you up. Understand that you cannot tell by looking at the engine whether or not is is any good. To avoid making costly mistakes you need the answers to questions such as:
Was the vehicle in a front end collision?
How many miles are on it?
How long has it been in the salvage yard?
How was it tested and what were the results?
What warranty is available?
Can you get your money back if the engine fails and the supplier does not have a replacement?
Who pays for the return of the engine if there is a problem?
Not knowing the answers to these questions can cost you a lot of money. If you get a bad engine and have it installed, you are going to have to find another engine and pay for a second installation. In order to prevent this, you need to work with someone who has the professional training to find the best value for you.
